CARROLL COUNTY 4-H CLUB
|
The Georgia 4-H Program is widely known and recognized because of its enthusiastic approach to providing boys and girls (ages 9-19) opportunities to learn practical knowledge and skills in all areas of agriculture and home economics. Many other areas, such as engineering, ecology photography, leisure, energy conservation, have joined this list of opportunities. Four-H Clubs give identity to learning activities, enhance personal development through project work, and establish a formal vehicle for involvement of adults. County agents work closely with volunteer leaders, school personnel, parents and other resource people in providing the program and organization leadership.
The activities 4-H members enjoy include once a month meetings; educational programs; camping, shooting sports; rafting; learning to judge livestock, horse, and other competitions; entering livestock shows; preparing demonstration projects; and a wide variety of educational and fun trips. Those who remain active in 4-H throughout their years in high school may apply for college scholarships.

"Junior livestock projects teach youngsters to get along with people. Most people that lose jobs lose them because they can't get along with people, not because of a lack of knowledge. Showing livestock, winning, getting beat, etc. helps youngsters to get along with others.
Livestock projects teach responsibility. If we shouldered out responsibilities as well as our junior livestock feeders do, we would be doing our bit to improve the world. A specific responsibility is to hear and obey an alarm clock. If a youngster got no more out of a project than this, it would be worthwhile.
These projects teach youngsters to attend to details. Everybody takes pretty good care of the big things, but in livestock feeding, and especially through life, those little things or the person who goes the extra mile is the one who gets the job done." -- Bill Hodge
